Our Story
Our story began with Vern Saar,
the beloved grandfather of our founders,
and his two kind-hearted neighbors.
When Vern lost his wife of over 55 years, his world changed.
Within months, his health and spirit began to fade. Then, he lost his dog, Sadie. Though surrounded by loving family and friends, Vern’s independence started to slip away, and talk of assisted living began.
Then, something unexpected happened. A housekeeper suggested Vern get a puppy. The wild, untrained little dog quickly had Vern up and moving again—outside, active, and with a renewed sense of purpose. He began smiling more, walking regularly, engaging with loved ones, and rediscovering moments of joy in a life that had grown quiet.
Vern’s neighbors, Ray and Line, quietly stepped in. Ray took care of the lawn and snow, while Line helped with cooking and cleaning. They never asked for anything in return, though Vern insisted on paying what he could. Over the next ten years, their simple acts of kindness allowed Vern to remain in the comfort of his own home—with dignity, pride, and joy. Vern even outlived that spirited new puppy.
Ray and Line didn’t just help Vern—their generosity became the blueprint for Silver Fox Senior Services.
